2nd April 2016 My dear Gabiteers; It was with an incredibly heavy heart that I asked Julia and Becky to see about the possibility of changing the dates for AT9. Never in our history have we ever even considered doing this. We have always soldiered on and weathered any storm. And you dear attendees have made the events all the more fun for it. Remember when I had food poisoning? (tuna sandwich against Julia's advice= bad idea…....just saying) Remember me running between talks and autographs to breast feed Olivia? Spurred on by you chanting and giggling in the lobby. Awesome. Totally awesome. Or AT8 where I had pneumonia….we made up all new ways to do Q and A’s and it was one of the best events. Which brings me to asking for a date change for AT9. The truth is we are stuck between a rock and hard place. If we kept the weekend where it was I would have missed the cocktail party, Saturday morning and then I would have had to leave Sunday early afternoon. Crazy right?! So we made the decision to try and push one week and the hotel was very amenable and we were able to get the rooms we need. Believe me, I know this has caused considerable inconvenience and has even forced some of you to drop out, which is heartbreaking. I know it means changing plans and changing holidays and I hope this doesn’t prove to be too onerous. I love and appreciate all of you for making the effort and for doing it with such humour and grace. I think those are two important words in our GABIT history…humour and grace. Julia, Becky, Mumsey and John have it in abundance… and so do all of you. So here’s the thing, I think AT9 will simply be THE best event we have ever done. We have a few new surprises….I will be performing two original monologues (commissioned just for this event). I’ll have some original art and lots of charity auction goodies. The hilarious charades Q and A will be back, but better than ever. I have been given permission to screen a very special film for you. :D We are committed to having a joyful, goofy, poignant weekend. Thank you for your understanding and your grace. I look forward to seeing you all soon. xoxo Amanda |
